About This Role

This Patient Service Coordinator role involves being the initial point of contact for patients, managing their intake, scheduling appointments, and ensuring efficient patient flow within MedStar Health Urgent Care. The position focuses on providing world-class compassionate care and exceptional patient experience at every touch point.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients courteously and professionally, serving as the initial point of contact.
  • Coordinate efficient patient flow through the practice or hospital department.
  • Make and schedule appointments, including follow-up and referral appointments.
  • Register patients, verify insurance, and explain patient responsibility for payments and co-pays.
  • Collect co-payments, post time of service (TOS) payments, and prepare charge batches.
  • Answer telephones, provide triage, and disseminate messages appropriately.
  • Prepare, update, and copy forms, reports, and records, and scan/import to patient medical records.
  • Contact patients regarding missed appointments and track no-shows.
  • Perform check-out procedures, input patient charges, and verify demographic and insurance information.
  • Ensure optimal patient flow by managing variable patient volume and providing backup to the team.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 year experience providing high quality customer service, preferably in a healthcare setting
  • CPR certification (AHA or ARC) within 90 days
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills
  • Good telephone etiquette
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform in a high-pressure environment
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Ability to deal effectively and professionally with a variety of individuals
  • Ability to support and monitor the needs of multiple medical providers

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 1 year experience providing high quality customer service required, preferably in a health care setting.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with computerized schedules, registration systems, and electronic records
  • Working knowledge of IDX/GE centricity business
