About This Role

This role involves providing professional nursing care to patients from admission through discharge, utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care. The Clinical Nurse II will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, focus on relationship-based care, and ensure patient safety and quality outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the achievement of established department goals and objectives, adhering to policies, procedures, quality standards, safety standards, and MedStar SPIRIT Values.
  • Comply with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Collect and analyze significant patient information pertaining to physical, psychological, socio-cultural, economic, spiritual, and life-style behaviors, leveraging available technology.
  • Function autonomously providing relationship-based care that promotes continuous, consistent, efficient, and accountable delivery of nursing care using the nursing process.
  • Identify current and potential complex problems of specific patient populations, critically analyze trends and changes in patient status, and plan appropriate interventions.
  • Incorporate evidence-based practice and research into patient care delivery with a focus on quality and safety.
  • Serve as a patient advocate by independently communicating clinical concerns (including ethical decisions) in a timely manner to other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Practice within legal boundaries of the nurse practice act and possess a theoretical understanding of universal ethical principles.
  • Individualize patient's plan of care focusing on short and long-range goals, and effectively use a variety of teaching resources to meet the learning needs of patients and families.
  • Communicate patient information clearly and accurately in verbal and written format.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment, identify actual and potential patient safety issues, and act accordingly while incorporating HRO quality and safety principles.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership behaviors, establish priorities, and delegate tasks to peers and ancillary staff as appropriate to scope of practice and unit requirements.
  • Effectively use problem identification and resolution skills focusing on the clinical scenario to resolve apparent concerns.
  • Follow the chain of command by consulting with other healthcare professionals and seeking assistance as needed.
  • Independently communicate concerns in a timely manner and make suggestions to members of the interdisciplinary team by seeking and using resources effectively.
  • Evaluate the patient's response to treatment and progress toward short and long-range goals, and revise nursing interventions as appropriate.
  • Identify patient and family needs prior to discharge, and initiate and monitor discharge planning activities in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Independently identify resources and strategies to enhance professional growth and development, committing to life-long learning.
  • Support and contribute to the unit, department, entity, and organizational goals inclusive of the mission, vision, and values.
  • Participate in meetings and on committees, representing the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited academic nursing program
  • 1-2 years RN experience
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure
  • CPR for healthcare providers (AHA or American Red Cross) within 90 days of hire
  • Basic math skills
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited academic nursing program required; Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited academic nursing program preferred
  • 1-2 years RN experience required

CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days (Required) C-EFM - Electronic Fetal Monitoring from the National Certification Corporation (NCC) for Perinatal nurses within 12-15 months from hire date (Required)
