PRN Emergency Department Technician

About This Role

The Emergency Department Technician performs clerical, computer, phlebotomy, EKG, and other patient care duties in a rapid-paced Emergency Department under the supervision of nursing staff or a physician.

Responsibilities

• Assist physician in patient examinations and specific ED procedures
• Perform weekly checks of eyewash station as assigned
• Assist in order entry and clerical duties as needed
• Completely and accurately document all patient interventions and interactions on PCR
• Accurately perform phlebotomy duties on all age/population groups and process specimens
• Perform treatments, procedures, collect and record patient data under RN direction
• Interpret patients EKG rhythm and communicate aberrancies to primary RN
• Properly apply orthopedic splints and dressings with associated patient/family teaching
• Assist with post mortem care and in preparing for emergency transfer to cath lab or OR
• Independently restock inventory of all work areas each shift

Requirements

• Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology
• CPR certification

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program, or accredited phlebotomy program with 6 months experience, or 2 years acute hospital CNA experience, or nursing student clinical experience.
• Entry level with specific educational requirements. Phlebotomy, EKG, cardiac rhythm experience preferred.
