Manage the operational, administrative, and technical functions of a licensed pharmacy within University Health Services. This role involves providing pharmaceutical services, ensuring regulatory compliance, and serving as Pharmacist in Charge.
Responsibilities
- Manage pharmacy and all related operations, including consulting with medical staff and assuring compliance with regulatory agencies like State Board of Pharmacy and AAAHC.
- Select vendors and oversee inspection of pharmaceutical items received following UHS policy and procedure.
- Establish, implement, and monitor changes to policies and procedures concerning facility's pharmacy operations.
- Manage, coordinate, and supervise pharmaceutical services including purchasing, receiving, storing, and dispensing of drugs.
- Chair Pharmaceutical and Therapeutics Committee and collaborate with other clinic departments in all aspects relating to pharmaceuticals.
- Develop and monitor operational and budget for sustained revenue growth, staff FTE, finance, human resources, and space planning.
- Manage inventory according to Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee guidelines to determine stock needs and ensure use before expiration.
- Manage and lead pharmacy staff, including hiring, training, evaluating, and disciplining according to campus policies and procedures.
- Create, adjust, and maintain efficient staff schedules to ensure optimal coverage and minimize labor waste.
- Oversee compliance with DEA regulations, including accurate controlled substance inventory and record keeping.
- Perform all duties of a UHS Pharmacist, including direct patient care, checking medication accuracy, and patient counseling.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of all pharmacy functions and pharmaceutical services/operations.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with customers and other medical professionals.
- Strong skills in managing staff members and department budget.
- Knowledge of and skills in working with pharmacy information systems and electronic/medical recordsystems.
- Knowledge of revenue generation, pharmacy budgets, and inventory control.
- Strong skills in and knowledge of the practices of management and supervision.
- Knowledge of HIPAA Privacy Rules and California state laws regulating privacy and confidentiality of health information.
- Knowledge of CA laws regarding pharmacy regulation and the role of the CA Board of Pharmacy.
- Critical thinker with advanced analytical abilities to identify and solve complex problems.
- Ability to effectively lead and work within a collaborative team-focused environment.
- High emotional intelligence, professionalism, credibility, and commitment to high standards.
- Possession of the legal requirements for the practice of pharmacy, as determined by the California Board of Pharmacy.
Qualifications
- Pharm D degree from an accredited school of pharmacy
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in a leadership role to include the management/oversight of pharmacy department operations and personnel management in an ambulatory or community setting.
Nice to Have
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant retail/outpatient pharmacy experience with demonstrated working and administrative understanding of retail clinic setting/outpatient dispensing, clinical services implementation and management and computer systems.
- Self-Administered Hormonal Contraception Pharmacist Protocol.
- Pharmacist Furnished Naloxone Protocol.
