This Pharmacist role involves reviewing and dispensing prescriptions, providing drug information and advice to patients and providers, and monitoring patient progress in a home infusion or medical center setting. The role requires a strong understanding of pharmacy regulations and the ability to utilize new technology.
Responsibilities
- Review prescriptions to assure accuracy, ascertain needed ingredients, and evaluate their suitability
- Provide information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage
- Review, interpret, and dispense both prescription and non-prescription medication to patients in a retail home infusion pharmacy setting
- Actively respond to prescription issues and advise providers on medication selection, dosage, interaction, and side effects
- Counsel patients on medication prescriptions, including administration, side effects, expected response, and storage
- Monitor the health and progress of patients in response to drug therapy
- Learn and utilize new technology as the profession of pharmacy evolves
- Provide oversight and clinical supervision for pharmacy services and pharmacy support personnel
- Review and interpret provider orders, provide drug information, and assist in problem-solving in a medical center or institutional setting
- Utilize appropriate age-related patient information to assess the pharmaceutical needs of patients
- Follow all established regulations and standards that govern the practice of pharmacy
- Perform decentralized clinical functions like direct patient interaction, interdisciplinary team rounding, chart reviews, and customer/patient counseling
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy
- Thorough knowledge of drugs and their actions
- Knowledge of state and local regulations
- Current Pharmacist license in good standing in state(s) of practice
