The Emergency Department (ED) Tech Level I provides patient care functions and technical procedures under the direction of a Registered Nurse, ensuring safe and age-appropriate care. This role involves vital signs, EKG, blood sugar testing, wound care, splint application, and instructing patients on safe ambulation.
Responsibilities
- Obtain and document vital signs, informing the nurse of any abnormalities
- Perform 12-lead EKG and provide to ED physician
- Perform bedside blood sugar testing and inform the nurse of abnormal results
- Measure and apply extremity splints as directed by nurse or physician
- Instruct patients on safe crutch ambulation techniques with return demonstration
- Perform oral suctioning and superficial wound care
- Perform procedures using aseptic technique, including urethral catheterization, sterile tray preparation, dressing application, and phlebotomy
- Track, deliver, maintain, and retrieve telesitter carts; troubleshoot connectivity issues
- Perform safe room guideline checks upon initiation and at every hand-off; conduct environmental rounds
- Respond to remote telesitter escalations for face-to-face intervention
- Transport patients, unit supplies, equipment, and patient medications safely
- Monitor patients in restraint / seclusion, documenting observations and notifying the nurse of abnormal findings
- Observe cardiac monitors to recognize arrhythmias and communicate findings to a professional
- Ensure patient care area is appropriately stocked and perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- BLS - Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
- Proficiency with desktop computer
- Proficiency obtaining vital signs using manual processes
