Patient Care Technician - ED

About This Role

The Patient Care Technician provides direct and indirect patient care under the guidance of a registered nurse, implementing care plans related to basic human, mental health, and social needs. This role ensures patient comfort, safety, and addresses daily living, personal care, nutrition, and elimination needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect patient care duties under the guidance and direction of the registered nurse
• Implement components of the plan of care through the initiation/completion of procedures relating to basic human, mental health and social needs
• Address comfort, safety and emergency measures for patients
• Assist with activities of daily living for patients
• Address personal care needs
• Manage nutrition and fluid needs for patients
• Handle elimination needs
• Measure vital signs
• Perform ECGs (electrocardiograms)
• Perform venipuncture
• Perform IV placement
• Conduct capillary blood glucose testing
• Perform Unit Secretary duties
• Undertake Patient Transport duties
• Ensure Environment of Care duties are met

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Successful completion of Nurses Aide or Medical Assistant Training and Competency Evaluation program, EMT training program or Nursing student with satisfactory completion of Nursing 101 clinical or equivalent clinical rotation

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
