Patient Care Technician

About This Role

This role involves providing direct and indirect patient care in the Emergency Department under the guidance of a registered nurse, focusing on basic human needs, comfort, safety, and daily living activities. The Patient Care Technician also performs vital sign measurements and specific medical procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect patient care duties under the guidance of a registered nurse
• Implement components of the plan of care related to basic human, mental health, and social needs
• Initiate and complete procedures relating to patient comfort, safety, and emergency measures
• Assist with activities of daily living and personal care needs
• Support patient nutrition, fluid needs, and elimination needs
• Measure vital signs
• Perform ECGs
• Conduct venipuncture
• Perform IV placement
• Conduct capillary blood glucose testing
• Undertake Unit Secretary duties
• Perform Patient Transport duties
• Handle Environment of Care duties

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Successful completion of Nurses Aide or Medical Assistant Training and Competency Evaluation program, EMT training program or Nursing student with satisfactory completion of Nursing 101 clinical or equivalent clinical rotation
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• 1 year experience in a related patient care role preferred
