The Patient Care Tech (PCT) performs direct patient care procedures, assisting the unit manager, professional staff, and physicians, focusing on meeting patient needs.
Responsibilities
- Meet the comfort and hygiene needs of the patient
- Assist with completion of patient testing and treatment procedures
- Set up and prime IV tubing
- Perform 12-lead ECG
- Perform simple tracheostomy suctioning and care
- Change dressings
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Obtain wound and throat cultures
- Assist physician and professional staff in equipment supply and setup
- Assist with ambulating patients with assistive devices such as crutches and with transfer/transport procedures
- Perform required documentation and communicate effectively to meet patient and/or family needs and regulatory requirements
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient, employee, and department information
- Utilize time and resources effectively to promote quality and cost outcomes
Requirements
- Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program with placement on the Illinois Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry or verification of an equal or higher educational level in a clinically focused program
Qualifications
- High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education
- Less than one year of previous job-related experience (Preferred: 1-2 years)
