Patient Care Associate - Medicine

About This Role

This role provides direct patient care, performing skilled functions such as phlebotomy, EKG, specimen collection, and daily living activities. The Patient Care Associate shares accountability for quality patient outcomes within the Medicine department.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the unit’s admission and discharge processes
• Establish good interpersonal relationships with families/visitors and hospital staff
• Report vital information to all levels of the healthcare team
• Obtain and document patient vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, respirations, pulse, weight, and height)
• Perform activities of daily living appropriate to patient’s condition
• Obtain and label specimens, and perform diagnostic tests consistent with established procedures
• Perform phlebotomy procedures
• Perform telemetry and electrocardiograms
• Perform delegated patient care procedures
• Perform grade I and II decubitus care
• Use proper body mechanics, obtain help and/or use appropriate equipment when lifting, moving or transferring patients
• Respond to patient requests and/or call light
• Inform Nurse and health care team of any observed significant changes in patient’s condition
• Maintain a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families
• Function as a team member in an emergency situation with guidance from supervisory personnel

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Prior relevant experience
