Provide direct patient care and assistance with activities of daily living to assigned patients in the Hematology/Oncology department. Communicate patient status changes and ensure a safe, efficient environment while supporting administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
- Provide approved care of assigned patients under RN supervision
- Assist in implementation of interventions under RN supervision
- Supervise and assist patients with activities of daily living
- Supervise developmentally appropriate activities
- Offer assistance to co-workers after completing own duties
- Use crisis control techniques and assist in de-escalation of patients and visitors
- Assist with patient transport as requested
- Assist with 1 on 1 patient observation as needed
- Report present status or changes in patient condition on an ongoing basis
- Complete timely documentation of information in the patient medical record
- Discuss concerns of work situation with Director or designee
- Ensure all areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective, and efficient environment
- Comply with Infection Control policies and procedures
- Adhere to safety procedures appropriate to children's ages and development levels
- Respond to communication system/patient alarms with a sense of urgency
- Answer the telephone in accordance with CCHMC telephone etiquette
- Assemble charts, order patient supplies, and stock clerical supplies
- Assist in the orientation and training of new employees
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of medical/surgical or equivalent clinical rotation from ACEN, CCNE or NLN CNEA accredited institution OR listed on Ohio STNA registry or Ohio CNA OR listed on Ohio or National Emergency Medical Services Registry OR 1+ years of patient care experience within the last three years
- Training in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and maintenance of certification
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1+ years of patient care experience within the last three years, or specific certifications/clinical rotations
Certifications
CPR
