Patient Benefit Representative

About This Role

The Patient Benefit Representative obtains insurance and demographic information from patients prior to treatment and educates them on their coverage, benefits, and expenses. This role ensures accurate co-pay entry, verifies patient information at each visit, and maintains professional relationships with financial aid providers.

Responsibilities

• Obtain insurance coverage information and demographics prior to patient treatment
• Educate patients on insurance coverage, benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses
• Assess patient ability to meet expenses and discuss payment arrangements, including financial assistance programs
• Complete Patient Cost Estimate forms based on diagnosis, insurance, and financial assistance
• Obtain insurance pre-authorization or referral approval codes from Clinical Reviewer prior to each treatment
• Review patient account balances and notify the front desk of patients to meet with
• Verify and update patient demographics and insurance coverage in the computer system at each visit
• Stay current on available financial aid and develop professional relationships with providers
• Adhere to confidentiality, state, federal, and HIPAA laws and guidelines regarding patient records

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum three (3) years patient pre-services coordinator or equivalent experience
• Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
• Knowledge of CPT coding and HCPS coding application
• Ability to verbally communicate clearly and utilize appropriate terminology

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum three (3) years patient pre-services coordinator or equivalent experience
