The Patient Benefit Representative obtains insurance and demographic information from patients prior to treatment and educates them on their coverage, benefits, and expenses. This role ensures accurate co-pay entry, verifies patient information at each visit, and maintains professional relationships with financial aid providers.
Responsibilities
- Obtain insurance coverage information and demographics prior to patient treatment
- Educate patients on insurance coverage, benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses
- Assess patient ability to meet expenses and discuss payment arrangements, including financial assistance programs
- Complete Patient Cost Estimate forms based on diagnosis, insurance, and financial assistance
- Obtain insurance pre-authorization or referral approval codes from Clinical Reviewer prior to each treatment
- Review patient account balances and notify the front desk of patients to meet with
- Verify and update patient demographics and insurance coverage in the computer system at each visit
- Stay current on available financial aid and develop professional relationships with providers
- Adhere to confidentiality, state, federal, and HIPAA laws and guidelines regarding patient records
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum three (3) years patient pre-services coordinator or equivalent experience
- Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
- Knowledge of CPT coding and HCPS coding application
- Ability to verbally communicate clearly and utilize appropriate terminology
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum three (3) years patient pre-services coordinator or equivalent experience
