Patient Access Representative

About This Role

This role is responsible for courteously greeting patients, scheduling appointments, and completing the check-in and admission processes. The position ensures accurate demographic and insurance data for billing and reimbursement while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and guests courteously in person or via telephone
• Initiate scheduling appointments or completing patient check-in/admission
• Obtain and verify accurate identification and demographical data for medical records
• Perform point-of-service collections and complete patient registration/admission processes
• Verify insurance via electronic, telephone, or web applications
• Balance cash drawer daily, prepare deposit slips, and follow closing cash drawer process
• Demonstrate respect and cooperation in all staff relationships
• Adapt behavior to specific patient populations and maintain professionalism

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, business services/revenue cycle, or customer service-related environment
• Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency with Windows-style applications and specific software packages
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Clerical skills and technical knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits
• Current knowledge of Federal, State and Local billing regulations

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, business services/revenue cycle, or customer service-related environment.

• Associate's Degree
• Certification in Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM)
• Certification in Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA)
• Certification as a Medical Assistant (or other medical specialty-based certification)
