The Optometric Technician partners with Optometrists to ensure a seamless and stellar eye exam experience for patients, managing patient flow, performing pre-testing, and supporting various clinical and administrative tasks. This role is crucial for maintaining efficient eye exam operations and accurate patient records.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary liaison between doctor and patient, building rapport with all eye exam patients
- Perform preliminary clinical data collection including autorefraction, visual acuity, eye pressure, pupil testing, ocular motility testing, retinal imaging, and lensometry
- Support in-person and video-assisted eye exam appointments
- Provide insertion and removal training for new contact lens wearers and train other team members
- Manage patient flow through the eye exam process efficiently
- Maintain meticulous and accurate records of collected data and prepare reports for other medical professionals
- Ensure adherence to governmental regulations, privacy policies (HIPAA/PIPEDA), and company procedures
- Prepare and maintain an organized exam room by replenishing supplies, keeping contact lens trials up-to-date, and ensuring cleanliness and maintenance of equipment
- Support the retail sales team as directed by the Store Leader
Requirements
- Professional, articulate, and compassionate approach to patient care
- Team player with strong collaboration and communication skills
- Excellent multitasking, organization, and time management abilities
- Precise and comfortable with technology, capable of quickly learning new medical applications
Nice to Have
- 1+ years of experience in a medical environment supporting doctors
- Exceptional knowledge about eyewear features and benefits
- Working knowledge of G Suite
- Previous work experience with optometry, electronic health records, or medical care
- Familiarity with healthcare technology systems and equipment (EMR systems, retinal cameras, exam room equipment)
- Completion of an Optometric Technician training program or CPOT certification
