Optical Consultant

About This Role

Serve as an Optical Consultant, responsible for selling eyewear and accessories, ensuring patients receive properly fitted frames and lenses with correct prescriptions and measurements, and delivering extraordinary customer service.

Responsibilities

• Deliver extraordinary experience to each patient and provide a complete understanding of customized product and service recommendations
• Develop own clientele by providing outstanding service and obtaining referrals
• Keep current on company/industry products, procedures, manufacturer rebates, and types of lenses and frames available
• Take and return patient calls, updating patients on order status and resolving order issues, escalating to Store Manager if necessary
• Retrieve patient charts and electronic health records
• Assist patients in selecting frames, lens type, and lens treatments based on specific needs and facial measurements
• Educate patients on proper eyeglass and contact lens care
• Collect eye and face measurements to ensure proper fit
• Interpret prescriptions written by optometrist and ophthalmologist
• Create work orders for lab technicians, specifying information on lenses needed
• Follow-up on all pending orders, verify orders are within time guidelines, inform patients of status, and notify when orders arrive
• Dispense glasses by inspecting the product, checking for proper fit, adjusting if necessary, and asking for feedback
• Adjust eyewear to ensure visual acuity, proper fit, and patient comfort using various tools
• Communicate regularly with technicians and/or store managers, providing additional patient information or asking for order status
• Inspect the final product for flaws; clean and polish lenses using cloths and solvents
• Clean and organize frame boards, displays, mirrors, work bench, office area, bathroom, and breakroom, maintaining overall cleanliness and visual appeal
• Restock retail boards with new merchandize
• Understand product issues and analyze problems; accurately answer patients’ questions regarding insurance, warranty, products, materials, services, pricing, and promotions
• Collaborate with technicians, front desk associates, Managers, and Optometrist
• Sell miscellaneous products such as cleaners, contact lens supply, and safety glasses

Requirements

• High School Diploma
• Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
• Dependability and punctuality
• Ability to lift up to 30lbs, bend, kneel, and stand up to 8hrs a day

Qualifications

• High School Diploma
• Minimum of one-year experience working as an Optician strongly preferred; experience with sales preferred
