About This Role

Operate and maintain water/wastewater treatment, processing, disposal, and testing equipment to purify water and meet permit requirements. Monitor operational conditions, perform routine maintenance, and conduct field tests.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain water/wastewater treatment, processing, disposal, and testing equipment
  • Tends automatic and semi-automatic machines and related equipment including pumps, generators, valves, mixers, chemical feed and filter presses
  • Monitor control panels and adjust valves manually to regulate flow
  • Monitor flow meters, gauges, flow ratios, pressures and related controls through instrument panels
  • Monitor and record operating conditions observations and data in area shift log
  • Ensure conformance to process specifications
  • Diagnose basic operational problems and take corrective action per procedure
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance and maintenance related items
  • Perform manual labor including filling and emptying of machine bins and cleaning equipment, facilities and plant
  • Perform minor maintenance including routine preventive maintenance, lubrication and minor adjustments
  • Perform field tests (chemical, physical) in order to pace chemical dosages for process or alter unit processes
  • Sample wastewater and sludge according to schedule
  • Prepare chemical solutions and service automatic samplers
  • Monitor process chemical supplies and recommend reorder
  • Perform routine lab tests
  • Perform routine instrument calibration for portable meters

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Six months to two years of experience in water/wastewater treatment
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend English
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Ability to learn and independently operate assigned machines and equipment
  • Ability to learn and independently operate equipment such as pumps, engines, generators, valves, mixers, chemical feed, sludge processing, measuring/control devices, testing equipment and material handling equipment.
  • Working ability to use computer programs for process control
  • Must be able to work a 12-hour night shift (6PM – 6AM) with potential for daylight shifts, and be on-call
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays when required

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Six months to two years of experience in a related position and environment with knowledge of the methods, techniques, and practices of water/wastewater treatment.
