Operations Manager

About This Role

The Operations Manager is responsible for the full onboarding, development, coaching, mentoring, and performance management cycle for a team of drivers and helpers. This role focuses on ensuring safety practices and regulatory compliance in waste management operations.

Responsibilities

• Ensure new frontline employees have the necessary tools, instruction, and feedback for successful daily duties.
• Meet with new frontline employees daily to ensure consistent communication and onboarding support.
• Provide timely and consistent touchpoints with frontline employees.
• Regularly review best practices to enhance daily performance.
• Focus on understanding and progressing frontline employee career goals.
• Identify and address improvement opportunities, collaborating with frontline employees for continued success.
• Actively practice and seek feedback on coaching conversations.
• Lead by example to ensure safety practices are paramount with each employee.
• Teach and develop an understanding of the WM Way.
• Conduct Root Cause Investigations for all injuries and incidents, ensuring consistent discipline and retraining.
• Document and maintain records required by regulatory agencies such as the Department of Transportation.
• Review and audit documentation related to route operations daily (e.g., DVIRs, driver time and attendance, open tickets), following up where appropriate.
• Visit customers and customer sites to evaluate and resolve safety issues, seeking service alternatives where appropriate.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located
• Valid Driver's License
• 3+ years' experience in people management overseeing a staff of 28 drivers

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree (accredited) or High School Diploma (accredited) with two (2) years of relevant work experience.
• 3+ years' experience in people management overseeing a staff of 28 drivers, with experience in coaching, mentoring, and understanding transportation and logistics.
