About This Role

Lead a dedicated team at the Towantic Energy Center to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient combined-cycle plant operations. This role focuses on managing budgets, optimizing operator scheduling, and driving continuous improvements in thermal and electrical output through performance analysis and training programs.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the Operations Team to maintain reliable, safe, and efficient combined-cycle plant operations aligned with operational objectives and safety standards
  • Oversee Operator scheduling to ensure sufficient coverage for continuous, safe plant operation and provide on-call operational support
  • Optimize thermal and electrical output by establishing operational objectives and reviewing performance data to identify improvements
  • Analyze operating results and equipment failures to improve efficiency and performance, and assist in developing and managing the operations budget
  • Guide the Maintenance Manager on equipment condition and maintenance activities, providing technical direction and operational support for power plant systems
  • Oversee plant logs, records, reporting, and compliance documentation to support accurate, timely documentation
  • Manage controlled operations documents, including manuals and procedures, by issuing, reviewing, and revising content regularly
  • Maintain the Training Manual and lead training, skill development, and safety initiatives for Operations and Maintenance personnel
  • Ensure implementation of the water chemistry program, including sampling, inspections, inventory control, testing, and staff training
  • Coordinate environmental activities across departments to ensure compliance with permits, policies, and regulations
  • Develop and manage contracts and work scopes for external contractors to maximize efficiency and ensure adherence to standards

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in plant operations management
  • Strong technical qualifications in power generation systems (gas turbines, steam turbines, generators)
  • Proven ability to analyze operational results and equipment failures
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and environmental stewardship with knowledge of regulatory requirements
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks concurrently, and make sound decisions
  • Strong communication skills
  • Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent is desired
  • Extensive experience in plant operations management, directing and overseeing activities to ensure reliable, safe, and efficient combined-cycle plant operations

  • Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
