Nurse Practitioner - SICU

About This Role

The Nurse Practitioner in the SICU is responsible for conducting initial patient assessments, developing and documenting care plans, performing daily rounds, and ordering necessary tests and medications, while ensuring high-quality patient care in collaboration with the medical team.

Responsibilities

• Take initial patient histories and perform physical examinations
• Initiate, document, and communicate the plan of care
• Perform daily patient rounds
• Write orders for medications, laboratory work, and diagnostic tests
• Interpret laboratory and test results
• Confer with attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, and/or other care providers to ensure optimum quality of patient care
• Note discharge summaries, prescriptions, and any referrals on patient charts upon discharge
• Inform patients of necessary post-discharge care instructions

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in a Nurse Practitioner Program
• National Board Certification in specialty area
• Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in New York State
• Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State
• Collaborative practice agreement with designated protocols filed with NYS Department of Education OR collaborative relationship attestation as per the Nurse Practitioner Modernization Act 2015
• Current BLS certification
