This role is for a Certified Nurse Midwife/Certified Midwife who will provide full-scope midwifery services, including obstetrical and gynecological care in community office settings and at a Magnet Hospital. The position integrates the midwife model into Women and Children/Perinatal Services and offers opportunities for research and education.
Responsibilities
- Perform complete history and physical examination on new patients admitted to the labor room, and write admission notes utilizing the attending physician when appropriate
- Discuss new admissions with the attending physician and nursing staff including noted complications
- Decide who will follow the patient and develop a plan for care
- Perform admissions diagnostics and care including, but not limited to pelvic examination, cervical cultures, drawing bloods, and starting intravenous lines
- Follow progress of labor of all patients in labor and delivery suite in collaboration with the attending physician and nursing staff
- Monitor fetal heart rate patterns and notify the appropriate physician of significant deviations
- Examine patients periodically to determine progress in labor with ongoing assessment of maternal and fetal reaction to the progress of labor
- Report any abnormalities in patient’s condition to physician including, but not limited to meconium, bleeding, hypertonic labor, fetal distress, failure of progress in labor, malpresentation
- Participate in deliveries
- Provide physical and emotional care for the mother during labor, delivery, and postpartum phases
- Evaluate progress and manage the labor and delivery
Requirements
- Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing and Midwifery Program approved by ACNM
- Certification by AMCB
- BLS, and NRP Certifications
- Acquisition of DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) Number
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and Master’s Degree in Nurse Midwifery from an accredited midwifery educational program
- Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State
- Current licensure as a Nurse Midwife in the State of New York
- American Midwifery Board Certification
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and Master’s Degree in Nurse Midwifery from an accredited midwifery educational program
- Experience is a plus; will support hiring novice candidates or midwives returning to practice.
