The Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) II performs specimen processing and routine/complex testing on blood and other specimens, ensuring precise and reliable laboratory results that positively impact patient outcomes. This role requires knowledge of quality control, basic instrument maintenance, and procedure methodologies within the Blood Bank team.
Responsibilities
- Operates all instrumentation in assigned areas to deliver precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results, performing all necessary testing and equipment operation.
- Trains new laboratory personnel in methods, procedures, and use of equipment and instruments specific to the assigned area.
- Performs quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoots malfunctioning instrumentation, assessing technical/instrument problems and evaluating solutions.
- Reports and maintains accurate records of patient test results through the laboratory computer system, meeting published turnaround times.
- Participates in performance improvement activities and initiatives by proactively diagnosing and resolving problems, handling specific quality functions in an organized and timely fashion.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Physical/Life Science/related
- ASCP, AMT, AAB certification or eligibility
