About This Role

Join Serco as a Motorist Assistance Patrol Operator to monitor state highways, provide roadside assistance to stranded motorists, and support incident management services, ensuring safe and clear roadways for the traveling public.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor state highways for vehicle crashes, disabled/abandoned vehicles, debris, and lane-closing events, traffic signal malfunctions, damage to state equipment on state roadways, and general incident/congestion scenarios
  • Provide roadside assistance to stranded motorists (changing tires, giving battery jumps, providing fuel, removing debris)
  • Work closely with police and other first responders at highway incidents
  • Provide incident response, on-scene traffic control and limited first aid
  • Provide Traffic Incident Management (TIM) services
  • Use a two-way radio and/or smartphone to communicate and coordinate with the Traffic Management Center (TMC) staff and local police agencies
  • Observe required safety procedures to avoid injury and accidents
  • Complete a combination of classroom and field training to be certified as a motorist assistance operator

Requirements

  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • 0-2 years’ experience in incident management or related field
  • Valid Louisiana driver’s license
  • Availability to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment, lift/carry 50lbs, and walk unassisted for 300 yards
  • Ability to speak English language
  • Minimum age of 21
  • Ability to pass classroom and field training to be certified as a motorist assistance operator
  • Ability to pass 2-year DOT medical examination
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal history check and drug screen

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • 0-2 years’ experience in incident management or related field
