Mental Health Technician

About This Role

This role assists patients with daily living activities, measures physical condition, and leads educational discussions within a mental health unit. It involves observing and reporting patient behavior while maintaining a therapeutic environment, working under the direction of an RN.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain communication and therapeutic relationships with patients, ensuring dignity and respecting values within ethical standards.
• Conduct and accurately record patient observation rounds per organizational standards.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including monitoring bathing and providing assistance, and assisting with personal laundry.
• Perform patient care tasks such as taking and recording vital signs, collecting patient specimens, and monitoring/documenting food and fluid intake.
• Accompany patients for medical testing as assigned.
• Provide educational groups and Community & Goals groups as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) training program in the last 3 years OR
• Fundamentals of nursing course OR
• Certified nursing assistant program with certification (C.N.A.) OR
• Graduate of a professional or practical nursing program who did not pass state licensure in past 3 years OR
• Graduate of professional or practical nursing program outside the US awaiting licensure OR
• Documented experience as a nurse assistant, EMT, or surgical technician in the past 3 years
• Basic Life Support within 90 days of hire
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention within 90 days of hire

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma required. Unlicensed Assistive Personnel training program, fundamentals of nursing course, certified nursing assistant program (C.N.A.), or graduate of professional/practical nursing program.
• Documented experience as a nurse assistant, emergency medical technician, or surgical technician in the past 3 years is required if other educational requirements are not met. Experience as a nurse assistant in an inpatient setting preferred.
