Mental Health Technician

About This Role

This Mental Health Technician role assists in coordinating essential program activities and works with clinical staff to conduct process and specialty groups. This position requires closely interacting with patients in a therapeutic manner while assisting nurses in treatment and care.

Responsibilities

• Assist in coordinating essential program activities such as activity groups and specialty groups
• Work closely with clinical staff (Activity Therapists, Social Workers, Nurses) to conduct various process and specialty groups
• Assure that the patient program schedule is carried out as planned by the staff team
• Perform various duties assisting staff nurses in the psychiatric and physical treatment and care of patients
• Interact closely with patients, remaining engaged in activities and events throughout the treatment day
• Interact with patients in a therapeutic manner at all times and assist other staff in maintaining appropriate boundaries
• Facilitate group activities tailored to the appropriate topic, age, and level of understanding as approved by the Program Coordinator
• Ensure patients are consistently monitored in the proper location for the duration of activities
• Provide appropriate crisis intervention by anticipating and responding quickly to escalating behaviors, utilizing de-escalation techniques, and correctly prioritizing safety concerns

Nice to Have

• Previous experience in a mental health hospital setting
