About This Role

The Medical Support Assistant (MSA) in the Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service Line at the Iowa City VA Clinic provides crucial administrative and receptionist support for patient care. This role requires excellent customer service skills and sound judgment to address patient and employee concerns, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, cancel, and reschedule patient appointments and consults according to VHA national scheduling guidelines
  • Enter no-show information, monitor the electronic wait list, and prepare for clinic visits
  • Monitor inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility
  • Ensure encounter forms are completed to obtain appropriate workload credit
  • Verify and update patient demographics and insurance information
  • Process all emergency and non-emergency transfers to other VA or private facilities
  • Perform basic eligibility, co-pay, and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage

Requirements

  • Citizen of the United States
  • Proficient in spoken and written English
  • Ability to meet, communicate, and interact with individuals courteously
  • Ability to utilize computer systems for administrative data entry
  • Ability to learn and utilize basic medical terminology

Qualifications

  • One year above high school
  • Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work or one year above high school.
