This role involves providing direct patient care, assisting medical providers, and ensuring the efficient operation of a clinic, focusing on patient experience and adherence to medical standards.
Responsibilities
- Greet and escort patients to exam rooms, documenting subjective and objective data in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Perform nursing care in accordance with Chapter Six of the Code of Iowa, ensuring a safe and clean environment
- Communicate patient information, problems, needs, or status changes to providers verbally or via EMR
- Provide basic patient education and applicable handouts, explaining lab/diagnostic tests
- Administer medications or treatments per scope of practice and provider orders, utilizing proper procedures and infection control
- Utilize universal precautions for specimen collection (venipuncture, cultures) and patient care
- Perform lab/diagnostic testing as ordered, report critical values immediately, and maintain lab/diagnostic test logs
- Maintain patient confidentiality per HIPAA and the PHC Corporate Compliance Program
- Assist with phone calls, updating computer information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient records
- Anticipate and prepare exam rooms with necessary equipment and supplies, assisting with exams and procedures
Requirements
- Successful completion of Medical Assistant program from an accredited program
- Current Certification or Registration as a Medical Assistant from AAMA, AMT, NCCT or NHA
- Excellent customer service skills
- Phlebotomy skills
- Computer literacy including EMR, Microsoft Office, and internet
- Current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers Certification
- Current Mandatory Reporter Certification approved for the State of Iowa
- Ability to consistently meet the department work schedule
