About This Role

Join a team at Optum Primary Care as a Medical Assistant to prepare patients, assist physicians with procedures, and manage administrative tasks, contributing to quality, affordable healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patient and treatment rooms; sterilize medical equipment
  • Room patients, obtain health history, and measure and document vital signs
  • Document patient care and medical history using NextGen electronic medical record (EMR) software
  • Assist physicians with minor, in-office procedures
  • Schedule appointments, complete prior authorizations, process medication refills, handle referrals, answer calls and complete necessary paperwork
  • Perform CLIA waived testing
  • Administer injections or treatments and perform routine laboratory tests
  • Maintain all Practice Health and Safety Standards
  • Comply with Medical Assistant Certification Procedure by becoming certified within 9 months of employment

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Medical Assistant diploma, technical certificate, or certification OR 1+ years of experience performing the critical skills of a Medical Assistant after on-the-job training OR Current enrollment in an accredited Medical Assistant training program OR Active EMT certification accredited
  • Willingness to attain Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, CCMA, NCMA, or RMA) within 9 months of start date

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Entry-level position. Medical Assistant diploma, technical certificate, or certification OR 1+ years of experience performing critical MA skills after on-the-job training OR current enrollment in an accredited Medical Assistant training program OR active EMT certification accredited.

Nice to Have

  • Active Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, CCMA, NCMA, or RMA)
  • Additional healthcare certifications including ARRT, CEHRS, CBCS, CMAA, CPT
  • Experience working as an MA or EMT in a primary care setting
  • Experience with NextGen or other electronic medical record (EMR) software
  • Experience performing medical back-office tasks including injections/immunizations, phlebotomy, urinalysis, and administering medications
  • Experience performing medical front-office tasks including scheduling appointments, prior authorizations, medication refills, and referrals
