Medical Assistant

About This Role

This role involves performing patient care under the direct supervision of a physician or nurse, including preparing patients, administering tests, and assisting with procedures. The Medical Assistant will also coordinate care by organizing and filing reports into medical records.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the health care team in coordinating and implementing patient care plans
• Perform vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures, documenting findings in the medical record
• Collect specimens and assist providers in specimen collection, adhering to appropriate protocols
• Perform and document daily controls and calibration of laboratory equipment
• Perform electrocardiograms and phlebotomy in accordance with provider orders and infection control standards
• Assist physicians and nurses with special procedures and examinations, following appropriate protocols
• Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms, stocking supplies and ensuring par levels
• Participate in pre-visit chart preparation by ensuring required lab results and documentation are available
• Perform clerical functions such as filing, processing insurance forms, preparing financial records, and answering phones

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of a Medical Assistant training program with certificate OR 1-3 years' experience as a medical assistant, emergency medical technician or certified nursing attendant (with valid certificate) OR Successful completion of the Northwell Health Medical Assistant training program

Qualifications
