Perform patient care duties under the direct supervision of a physician or nurse, including preparing patients, assisting with examinations, and managing diagnostic records, to support efficient patient care coordination.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the health care team to coordinate and implement patient care plans
- Record patient's reason for visit and related information for practitioner review
- Perform vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures, documenting findings in the medical record
- Collect specimens and assist providers in specimen collection, adhering to appropriate protocols
- Perform and document daily controls and calibration of laboratory equipment, reporting inaccuracies to the supervisor
- Perform electrocardiograms and phlebotomy in accordance with provider orders and infection control standards
- Assist physicians and nurses with special procedures and examinations, ensuring proper protocols and patient care
- Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms, stock supplies, and complete required logs
- Participate in pre-visit chart preparation, ensuring required lab results and documentation are available
- Perform clerical functions such as filing records, processing insurance forms, and answering phones
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a Medical Assistant training program with certificate OR 1-3 years experience as a medical assistant, emergency medical technician or certified nursing attendant (with valid certificate) OR Successful completion of the Northwell Health Medical Assistant training program
Qualifications
