About This Role

The Medical Assistant supports healthcare teams by assisting with clinical and non-clinical patient services, including taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct patient interaction and collaboration with various medical staff to ensure efficient and high-quality care. Additionally, the Medical Assistant provides support and onboarding training for junior Medical Assistants.

Responsibilities

  • Show patients to examination rooms, prepare equipment, and interview patients to obtain medical information, vital signs, weight, and height, recording details in their medical record.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, and organize educational materials.
  • Perform general office duties such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients.
  • Collect, log, and prepare blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens for testing, including performing phlebotomy if competent.
  • Maintain inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
  • Provide immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience and provider supervision.
  • Improve appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as ensuring two patient identifiers and maintaining hand hygiene.
  • Assist junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and facilitate their learning through onboarding training.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 1-2 years of direct MA experience or medical field work
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Compliance with privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations
  • Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, collect blood samples and other specimens
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions
  • Time management skills

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required or Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred
  • 1-2 years of direct Medical Assistant experience or medical field work required.
