Medical Assistant

About This Role

The Medical Assistant supports healthcare teams by assisting with clinical and non-clinical patient services. This role involves direct patient interaction, taking vital signs, documenting patient information, and collaborating with healthcare providers to ensure efficient care.

Responsibilities

• Assist junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions, responsibilities, and onboarding training.
• Escort patients to examination rooms, prepare equipment, and obtain medical information, vital signs, weight, and height, recording data in medical records.
• Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, and organize educational materials.
• Perform general office duties including answering phones, taking dictation, completing insurance forms, and acting as a liaison with other departments.
• Collect, log, and prepare blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens for testing, performing phlebotomy if competent.
• Maintain inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates, providing immunizations where applicable.
• Improve departmental quality initiatives such as ensuring two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• 1-2 years of direct MA experience or medical field work
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments
• Accuracy and attention to detail
• Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols
• Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software
• Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, collect blood samples and other specimens

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required or Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred
• 1-2 years of direct Medical Assistant experience or medical field work required

Nice to Have

• Associate's Degree Medical Assisting
• BLS Certification
• Certified Medical Assistant (National Certification)
• Experience administering vaccines (requires certification or 3 years of experience and provider supervision)
