This role supports healthcare teams by assisting with clinical and non-clinical patient services, including taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. The Medical Assistant II will collaborate with healthcare providers to facilitate efficient patient care and ensure patient comfort.
Responsibilities
- Assist junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions, responsibilities, and onboarding training
- Show patients to examination rooms, prepare equipment, interview patients for medical information, and record vital signs, weight, and height in medical records
- Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, and organize educational materials
- Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms
- Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare for testing; perform phlebotomy if competent
- Maintain inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates
- Provide immunizations (if applicable) with certification or experience and provider supervision
- Improve appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 1-2 years of direct MA experience or medical field work
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Comply with privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations
- Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, as well as collect blood samples and other specimens
- Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required or Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred
- 1-2 years of direct MA experience or medical field work required
