This Medical Assistant I position supports clinicians with routine clinical procedures and tests in exam rooms, ensuring an efficient flow of patients and accurate electronic medical records. This role plays a key part in delivering connected care to adult and pediatric patients.
Responsibilities
- Provide efficient flow of patients to optimize patient appointment availability
- Greet and escort patients to exam rooms according to policy and procedures
- Prepare patient for examination; Measure vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse rate, weight, and height
- Assist clinicians with routine clinical procedures and/or additional tests specific to the department
- Advise patients of preparation or pre-visit testing required for exams specific to the department
- Ensure patients' electronic medical record (EMR) is updated with medical information, including recent testing and consultations
- Confirm demographic information, medications, allergies and chief medical complaints, and ensure the EMR patient data is accurate and up to date
- Keep patients informed of visit status, unforeseen delays and other relevant information
- Reconcile medications and set up pending refills. Discontinue prescriptions that are no longer active
- Assist in resolving minor patients' concerns and complaints as appropriate
- Order and perform point of care testing on patients; classified as waived testing (e.g., strep, urine, hcg and glucose testing)
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalency certificate from an accredited institution or governmental unit or a Medical Assistant Certification
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
- Computer experience with the ability to use word processing and spreadsheet programs
- Electronic medical record (EMR) experience and/or aptitude to master the EMR based on other technology experience
- Knowledge of reagent stability and storage
- Understands the testing procedure and factors influencing test results
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalency certificate from an accredited institution or governmental unit or a Medical Assistant Certification
- Entry level with up to one year of prior experience depending on education
Nice to Have
- Associate degree in medical assisting or graduate of medical assistant certification program
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty
- Minimum of one-year prior experience in a clinical or customer service setting
