The Medical Assistant I performs duties and responsibilities related to patient care in an ambulatory clinic setting under the direct supervision of a physician or licensed provider. This role involves assisting with patient care, maintaining inventory, and ensuring efficient patient flow and safety.
Responsibilities
- Room patients, obtain vital signs, BMI, patient history, and collect specimens
- Assist practitioners with procedures, complete forms, requisitions, and consents
- Document in EMR accurately, appropriately, and timely on a consistent basis
- Prep charts for patient office appointments, including retrieving labs, tests, imaging, and hospital notes
- Administer injections as ordered by provider, if applicable
- Follow through with pharmacy refills, scheduling outgoing orders and referrals, obtaining, reporting, and tracking lab results
- Stock equipment and supplies in assigned rooms daily
- Identify and notify provider of critical changes to patient’s status
- Prepare and close medical records accurately, appropriately, and timely on consistent basis
- Answer patient questions regarding procedures and medications as appropriate within scope of practice
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Certification or licensure as required by state
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Interpersonal and communication skills with patients, families, physicians and other health care team members
- Intermediate computer skills and experience with electronic medical office systems
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 1-2 years related experience preferred, but not required. Medical office experience preferred.
