Medical Assistant

About This Role

The Medical Assistant provides superior patient care and performs administrative and delegated clinical tasks that support patients in a clinic-based environment as part of a care team led by the physician and/or advanced practice provider.

Responsibilities

• Enters, maintains, and reports all medical history, medical coding, and files claims using an Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• Provide patient visit support, including greeting and escorting patients to exam rooms, taking vital signs, and gathering medical information.
• Sterilizes and prepares medical instruments, ensuring exam rooms are disinfected, orderly, and prepared for patients.
• Assists in maintaining inventory and stocking supplies, instruments, and equipment for all exam rooms.
• Records and reviews orders received for completeness, and addresses and requests referrals and other insurance authorizations.
• Pass along patient information for prescription, x-ray, or lab requisitions to necessary parties, including calls to pharmacies, hospitals, and labs.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Basic Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Microsoft Office knowledge.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Nice to Have

• Associate’s degree.
• Graduate from an accredited medical assistant/medical technologist school/program or three years of MA experience.
• Current national certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
• EMT/Paramedics meet qualifications for hire for OHI clinics.
