Medical Assistant

About This Role

Provide essential clinical and clerical support in the care of adult patients at Backus Hospital, working under the guidance of providers and nurses.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care including taking vitals, screenings, patient history, health maintenance, and virtual health support
• Perform indirect patient care tasks such as scheduling, check-in/out, referrals, scanning, chart preparation, and prior authorizations
• Facilitate patient transportation
• Manage work queues and worklists
• Conduct point of care testing: EKG, Hemoglobin A1C, Urinalysis, Hemoglobin POCT, Urine toxicity, INR, and hCG

Requirements

• Diploma from an accredited Medical Assistant program OR an active CT CNA, EMT, Paramedic Certification
• Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions
• Effectively communicate information in English

Qualifications

• Diploma from an accredited Medical Assistant program, or active CT CNA, EMT, Paramedic Certification
• At least one year of experience in direct patient care (acute or ambulatory space) may be considered in lieu of education requirements.

Nice to Have

• Relevant experience or MA externship in a busy medical office
• EPIC EMR experience
• Bi-lingual language skills
