About This Role

The Medical Assistant supports urgent care providers by assisting in patient examinations and treatments, managing patient registration and check-in, and performing essential clinical and administrative tasks. This role ensures a seamless patient experience and contributes to the efficient operation of the urgent care center.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of an urgent care provider
  • Manage the check-in and registration process, securing required paperwork and insurance documentation
  • Interview patients, measure vital signs (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and record information on patients' charts
  • Draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
  • Prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients and ensure providers have medical supplies needed
  • Conduct point of care testing (e.g., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG) and provide patient information to provider
  • Coordinate provider referrals to assigned specialists
  • Answer phone calls and conduct courtesy call-backs for patient follow-up
  • Perform opening and closing duties, including cashing out and securing the building
  • Maintain Quality Assurance/Quality Control logs for equipment and troubleshoot breakdowns

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • 1 year of Medical Assistant experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (ARC or AHA)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to type quickly
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Customer focus and exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program preferred
  • 1 year of Medical Assistant experience required; 3+ years accepted in lieu of certification.

Nice to Have

  • Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program
  • Front Desk experience
  • Experience in a Hospital, Emergency Room, or Urgent Care setting (for experience-based pathway)
  • EMT, Paramedic, LPN, RN, or CNA credentials recognized as alternative qualifications
