Assist in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of an urgent care provider. Manage the check-in and registration process and perform essential patient care duties.
Responsibilities
- Manage the check-in and registration process, including securing required paperwork and insurance documentation and verifying eligibility
- Interview patients, measure vital signs (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and record information on patients' charts
- Draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
- Prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients and ensure medical supplies are available
- Process co-pays and schedule patient appointments
- Coordinate provider referrals to specialists
- Conduct point of care testing (e.g., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG)
- Maintain medical records, scan charts to patient files, and answer phone calls
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- 1 year of Medical Assistant experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- One approved MA certification (or alternative experience/credentials as specified)
- Ability to type quickly
- Basic computer knowledge
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
Qualifications
- High School Diploma; Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program preferred
- 1 year of Medical Assistant experience required; 3+ years can substitute for certification under certain conditions
