About This Role

This Medical Assistant role involves assisting urgent care providers with patient examination and treatment, managing patient registration, and performing preliminary physical tests and point-of-care testing to ensure efficient patient care flow.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in examination and treatment of patients under direction of urgent care provider
  • Manage the check-in and registration process
  • Interview patients and record medical history
  • Measure vital signs (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height)
  • Draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
  • Prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients
  • Conduct patient registration, including securing required paperwork and insurance documentation
  • Process co-pays and schedule patient appointments
  • Coordinate provider referrals to specialists
  • Perform preliminary physical tests and escalate critical cases to provider as needed
  • Conduct point of care testing (flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG)
  • Stock supplies and maintain exam rooms, front desk, and reception area
  • Complete order sheets to maintain supply inventory and check expiration dates
  • Maintain medical records and scan charts to patient files
  • Perform opening and closing duties, including cashing out and securing the building
  • Perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment, troubleshoot breakdowns, and perform preventive maintenance

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • 1 year of Medical Assistant experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (ARC or AHA)
  • One approved MA certification (if less than 3 years MA experience) OR 3+ years MA experience with 1+ year in hospital/ER/urgent care setting
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program preferred
  • 1 year of Medical Assistant experience required, Front Desk experience preferred; 3+ years of Medical Assistant work experience AND 1+ year in Hospital, ER, or Urgent Care setting as an alternative to certification.
