The Medical Assistant supports urgent care providers by assisting with patient examinations and treatments, managing patient check-in and registration, performing vital sign measurements, and preparing samples for lab analysis. This role ensures an effortless patient experience and a welcoming culture of care within the urgent care centers.
Responsibilities
- Conduct patient registration, including securing paperwork and insurance documentation, and verifying eligibility
- Process co-pays and schedule patient appointments
- Coordinate provider referrals to specialists
- Prepare patients for examination, including conducting interviews and recording medical history
- Perform preliminary physical tests for vital signs and escalate critical cases
- Conduct point of care testing as needed (e.g., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG)
- Responsible for stocking supplies and maintenance of exam rooms, front desk, and reception area
- Maintain medical records and scan charts to patient files
- Perform opening and closing duties, including cashing out and securing the building
- Follow operating instructions for daily controls and calibration of equipment, maintaining QA/QC logs
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program
- BLS certification
- One of the following certifications: CCMA, CMA, RMA, NCMA, NRCMA (or LPN/RN/EMT)
- CPOE certification within two weeks of hire
Qualifications
- High School Diploma required, Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program required
- Medical Assistant experience preferred. Front Desk experience preferred.
