Medical Assistant Float

About This Role

This Medical Assistant Float position supports urgent care providers by assisting with patient examinations and treatments, managing patient registration, and performing various medical and administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of an urgent care provider
• Manage the check-in and registration process, including securing required paperwork and insurance documentation
• Interview patients, measure vital signs (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and record information on patients' charts
• Draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
• Prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients
• Process co-pays and schedule patient appointments
• Conduct point of care testing (e.g., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG) and provide patient information to provider
• Responsible for stocking supplies, maintenance of exam rooms, front desk, and reception area
• Ensure providers have necessary medical supplies and regularly check expiration dates on supplies
• Maintain medical records and scan charts to patient files
• Answer phone calls, collect and sort daily incoming and outgoing postal correspondence
• Perform opening and closing duties, including cashing out and securing the building
• Follow operating instructions to perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment

Requirements

• High School Diploma
• 1 year of Medical Assistant experience
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Red Cross or American Heart Association)
• One of the required MA certifications (CCMA, CMA, RMA, NCMA, NRCMA) OR 3+ years MA experience with 1+ year in Hospital/ER/Urgent Care OR alternative credentials (Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing, LPN, RN, EMT, Paramedic, CNA)
• CPOE (Computerized Provider Order Entry) certification within two weeks of start date
• Basic Medical Assistant duties knowledge
• Ability to type quickly, basic computer knowledge
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Detail oriented
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to interact and treat all persons with fairness, respect and sensitivity to cultural/social difference

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program preferred
• 1 year of Medical Assistant experience required; 3+ years of Medical Assistant work experience AND 1+ year in a Hospital, ER, or Urgent Care setting as an alternative to certification.
