This Medical Assistant Float position supports urgent care providers by assisting with patient examinations and treatments, managing patient registration, and performing various medical and administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of an urgent care provider
- Manage the check-in and registration process, including securing required paperwork and insurance documentation
- Interview patients, measure vital signs (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and record information on patients' charts
- Draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
- Prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients
- Process co-pays and schedule patient appointments
- Conduct point of care testing (e.g., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG) and provide patient information to provider
- Responsible for stocking supplies, maintenance of exam rooms, front desk, and reception area
- Ensure providers have necessary medical supplies and regularly check expiration dates on supplies
- Maintain medical records and scan charts to patient files
- Answer phone calls, collect and sort daily incoming and outgoing postal correspondence
- Perform opening and closing duties, including cashing out and securing the building
- Follow operating instructions to perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- 1 year of Medical Assistant experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Red Cross or American Heart Association)
- One of the required MA certifications (CCMA, CMA, RMA, NCMA, NRCMA) OR 3+ years MA experience with 1+ year in Hospital/ER/Urgent Care OR alternative credentials (Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing, LPN, RN, EMT, Paramedic, CNA)
- CPOE (Computerized Provider Order Entry) certification within two weeks of start date
- Basic Medical Assistant duties knowledge
- Ability to type quickly, basic computer knowledge
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Detail oriented
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to interact and treat all persons with fairness, respect and sensitivity to cultural/social difference
Qualifications
- High School Diploma required; Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program preferred
- 1 year of Medical Assistant experience required; 3+ years of Medical Assistant work experience AND 1+ year in a Hospital, ER, or Urgent Care setting as an alternative to certification.
