As a Medical Assistant (MA), you will assist healthcare providers in a primary care clinic, performing back office duties, nursing support, and administrative tasks to ensure smooth patient flow and care coordination.
Responsibilities
- Accurately and efficiently take vital signs and basic historical patient data, identifying abnormal findings and communicating changes to providers or RNs.
- Assist providers in setting up for procedures using aseptic and sterile techniques, administer medications and immunizations (oral, IM, subcutaneous, intradermal), obtain EKGs, and order appropriate tests.
- Prepare patients for examinations, assist with examinations, cast or splint applications, and minor procedures.
- Coordinate clerical information for patient care, including referrals, assisting with appointments, faxing medical information, and maintaining patient records.
- Check in patients by escorting them to exam rooms and communicating any extended wait times.
- Document accurately and appropriately in patient medical records.
- Report changes in patient condition to appropriate healthcare providers in a timely manner.
- Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments/supplies, and maintain clinical and office supplies and equipment.
- Maintain a safe environment by practicing sound safety and infection control practices.
- Perform phlebotomy and various laboratory procedures after competency verification, maintaining safe collection and processing of laboratory specimens.
Requirements
- Certificate Program Certificate from a clinical Medical Assistant school or Accredited program of Licensed Practical Nursing with an active LPN license
- Completion of a 160 hour Externship or 6 months direct patient care experience in an outpatient setting
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification
