The Medical Assistant is an unlicensed medical professional responsible for performing routine administrative and clinical tasks under physician supervision, ensuring smooth medical center operations and excellent patient care.
Responsibilities
- Measures and records patient vital signs, interview, and medical history
- Catalogs and communicates patient needs to the PCP, Clinician, Specialist, and/or other clinical personnel
- Prepares patients for examinations and performs routine screening tests, assisting physicians with exams and explaining treatment procedures
- Observes patients and reports any changes in patient conditions to clinical personnel
- Performs non-critical medical and therapeutic procedures, collects phlebotomy and other lab specimens, and performs basic waived lab tests
- Prepares and administers medications, changes dressings, applies bandages, removes sutures, and performs other first aid procedures under physician supervision
- Maintains supplies, equipment, stocks, and sterilizes instruments, practicing OSHA safety standards and performing accurate documentation
- Processes patient phone messages, returning calls and routing them, and calls patients to obtain and relay pertinent information
- Calls in prescriptions to the pharmacy upon physician approval and authorization, using appropriate medical terminology and professional conduct
- Provides health coaching to a defined group of patients to support healthy lifestyle choices and follows up via weekly calls

- Ability to act calmly in busy or stressful situations
- Proficient skills in Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)
- Spoken and written fluency in English
