Medical Assistant

About This Role

Provide general nursing functions for the practice, including patient assessment, vital signs, immunizations, and maintaining patient charts at Bronson Colon & Rectal Surgery Specialist in Kalamazoo.

Responsibilities

• Provide general nursing functions under the provider's direction
• Record vital signs, immunizations, and perform initial patient assessments
• Obtain concise patient history and provide clinical information support to providers
• Process and post information to patient's chart
• Educate patients and families regarding medications, treatments, care, and referrals
• Prepare patients for examination including assessment, histories, vital signs, and routine testing
• Document pertinent information accurately in patient charts and maintain documentation standards
• Administer treatments and obtain specimens for testing (urine, phlebotomy) as requested by the physician
• Set up and assist physicians with procedures
• Schedule outside tests or procedures for patients and coordinate admissions, referrals, and prescriptions
• Stock exam rooms, conduct inventory of supplies, and assist in scheduling appointments

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Successful completion of an accredited medical assistant program OR CMA/CCMA/RMA certified OR Meet eligibility requirements to take CMA/RMA and obtain within 6 months of hire
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire/transfer
• Knowledge of clinical skills for Medical Assistant Certification/Registration
• Effective problem-solving and prioritization skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to process confidential information
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, doctors, and staff
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
• Ability to work independently and as an integral team member
• Personal computer skills with EMR experience highly desirable

Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
