About This Role

This Medical Assistant position provides direct patient care within the pain management department, performing clinical and administrative tasks vital to patient care while maintaining patient safety and confidentiality. The role requires floating to various pain management locations.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to Medical Assistant scope of practice and maintain training and competency based on area of specialty when providing patient care
  • Perform rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings
  • Assist provider with or perform procedures as ordered
  • Perform lab related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking
  • Administer medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration
  • Perform other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals
  • Demonstrate effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation
  • Maintain a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately, stocked, and in working order
  • May assist with training and onboarding of other teammates
  • May serve as a role champion or on a committee

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program OR structured military training/EMT OR 2 years verifiable full-time MA experience
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification (or obtained within 45 days)
  • Certified or registered as a CMA or RMA by a National Organization
  • 2 years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant
  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within MA scope of practice
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, Windows, and electronic mail
  • Exposure to electronic medical records systems
  • Strong customer service skills

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required, plus completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or structured military/EMT training or 2 years verifiable full-time MA experience within the last 5 years.
  • Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant.

Nice to Have

  • Successful completion of Atrium Health’s competency assessment (where applicable)
  • Successful completion of system approved program to become a primary trainer for new teammates (where applicable)
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) may be required in select areas
  • Demonstrates professional practice advancement through professional governance, safety coach, super-user, vaccine coordinator, SPICE or OSHA/IP certificate holder for unit
  • Achieves 6 points from the list of additional market responsibilities
