The Medical Assistant will support the care team at Atrium Health Endocrinology in Concord by performing clinical and administrative tasks vital to patient care, adhering to scope of practice, and maintaining professionalism.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to Medical Assistant scope of practice, policies, and procedures, maintaining training and competency when providing patient care.
- Perform rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings.
- Assist provider with or perform procedures as ordered.
- Perform lab related duties including venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking.
- Perform Point of Care testing (POCT) per standing order/provider order, including CLIA approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing.
- Administer medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
- Perform other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
- Perform duties relevant to specialty or clinic practice within the scope of the Medical Assistant, through cross-training.
- Demonstrate effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation.
- Maintain a clean work environment, ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately, in working order, and areas are appropriately stocked.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program OR structured military training which is clinical in nature (per DD214) OR EMT certification OR 2 years of verifiable full-time Medical Assistant experience within the last 5 years
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification (or to be obtained within 45 days in some divisions)
- Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within Medical Assistant scope of practice
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, Windows OS, email, and electronic medical records systems
- Customer service skills supporting positive patient experience
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED and completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or structured military training (DD214) in lieu of a formal program, or EMT; or 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years.
