This Medical Assistant position at Atrium Health's Arboretum Urgent Care provides direct patient care by performing clinical and administrative tasks, ensuring patient safety and confidentiality. The role supports the care team in a part-time capacity, requiring adherence to the Medical Assistant scope of practice and maintaining training and competency within the area of specialty.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to Medical Assistant scope of practice, policies, and procedures, maintaining training and competency.
- Perform rooming/visit tasks including vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, and screenings.
- Assist provider with or perform procedures as ordered.
- Execute lab duties: venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, order preparation, and results tracking.
- Perform Point of Care testing (POCT) and CLIA approved waived laboratory tests.
- Administer medications and vaccines safely, following rights of medication administration.
- Perform other duties such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, and patient messaging.
- Demonstrate effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation.
- Maintain a clean work environment, ensuring instruments, equipment, and supplies are in working order and stocked.
- Assist with training and onboarding of other teammates.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or structured military clinical training (per DD214) or EMT training
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification
- Certified or registered as a CMA or RMA by a national organization
- Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant
- Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within scope of practice
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient computer skills, including EMR systems
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required, and completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or structured military clinical training.
- Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant.
Nice to Have
- Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) certification in select areas
