The Medical Assistant (MA) supports the Primary Care Physician (PCP) in delivering compassionate primary care by conducting patient intake, assessing health conditions, performing routine diagnostic testing, and coordinating care within the healthcare delivery system. This role ensures efficient patient flow and contributes to a positive patient experience.
Responsibilities
- Conduct patient intake, measuring and recording vital signs, patient interviews, and medical history
- Perform examinations and routine screenings, ensuring patients are informed and supported
- Critically listen and engage with patients, reporting changes in conditions to PCPs and specialists
- Process patient phone messages, returning calls and routing as appropriate
- Perform first aid procedures like changing dressings, applying bandages, and removing sutures under physician supervision
- Ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards and maintain accurate documentation
- Provide health coaching to patients to support healthy lifestyle choices and follow up weekly
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Graduation from a nationally accredited Medical Assistant program OR comparable healthcare vocational training (i.e., foreign-trained physician, paramedic, etc.)
- Minimum of 1 year work experience as a Medical Assistant
- BLS for Healthcare Providers certification
- EClinical Works or similar EMR experience
- High degree of emotional intelligence and integrity, driven and focused work ethic
- Self-starter with ability to think creatively and work effectively
- Ability to work effectively with various seniorities and diverse populations
- Strong communicator that is customer oriented
- Excellent critical reasoning, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with claims/quality reports and analytical software packages
- Proficient skills in Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent education (GED)
- A minimum of 1 year work experience as a Medical Assistant.
Nice to Have
- 6+ months' phlebotomy experience
- Experience working with geriatric patients
