Machine Operator I - Staves Department

About This Role

Operate industrial machines to cut, machine, and assemble lumber into components for wood reels used in packaging wire and cable. This role involves meticulous attention to detail while working within a team in a non-temperature controlled warehouse environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate machines to produce components for wood reels
• Work within a team to handle and process lumber from raw material to finished product
• Make incremental process adjustments, monitoring and reporting the quality of manufactured products
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area
• Perform all duties as designated by supervisor/manager
• Perform all duties in support of Sonoco’s quality and safety policies
• Help other departments as needed

Requirements

• Minimum 1-year machine operating experience in an industrial environment
• Extensive knowledge of personal hand tools and safe usage to operate, adjust, and maintain production equipment
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for at least 8 hours
• Ability to read and understand manufacturing instructions
• Ability to effectively work with a team in a fast-paced environment
• Reliable, committed, and quality-focused

Qualifications

• Minimum 1-year of machine operating experience in an industrial environment

Nice to Have

• Working knowledge of 5S
