Low Voltage Technician

About This Role

TEKsystems is seeking a Low Voltage Cable Technician to install, terminate, and test structured cabling systems for commercial and industrial projects. The role focuses on delivering high-quality cable installation for data, voice, security, and communication systems.

Responsibilities

• Install, route, and secure low-voltage cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, fiber, coax, etc.)
• Perform cable terminations, testing, certification, and troubleshooting
• Install network racks, patch panels, cable trays, J-hooks, and wall plates
• Pull cable through ceilings, conduit, risers, and other pathways
• Ensure clean cable management, labeling, and documentation
• Assist with installation of related low-voltage systems, including CCTV cameras, access control devices, fire alarms, and A/V systems
• Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and wiring diagrams
• Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and test equipment
• Communicate with project managers, site supervisors, and customers
• Follow company, OSHA, and job-site safety guidelines

Requirements

• 6+ months of experience in low-voltage or structured cabling installation
• Proficiency in Cat5e/Cat6 terminations and testing
• Ability to work on ladders, lifts, attics, and crawlspaces
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• High school diploma or GED
• Strong attention to detail
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Reliable communication and teamwork
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• 6+ months of experience in low-voltage or structured cabling installation

Nice to Have

• Experience in commercial construction environments
• Knowledge of fiber optic cable installation and termination
• Familiarity with CCTV, access control, or AV systems
• Other technical certifications
